How To Automatically Shutdown Your PC 

Shutting down windows PC has never been this easier especially when you are using Windows 8/8.1 and 10 when you have to go to start>power before you can shut it down. In this tutorial, you will leato how to shut down your Windows PC without any stress (simply double-click). This post will show you how to automatically shutdown your PC.

You will also learn how to schedule the shutdown to any time you want. For example, if you are working on a project that you will complete in 1 hour; you will just schedule the shutdown to automatically shutdown your PC in 1 hour, and the system will automatically shutdown your PC in exactly one hour.

This trick also applies to Restart (you can restart your Windows PC using this trick).

How Do You Do That?

It’s simple to do (really). To do this you can just:

  • Right-Click on an empty space in your desktop and hover the mouse to “New” then click “Shortcut“​

  1. Type the following line in the shortcut box:

    shutdown -s -t 00

  2. Click “Next
  3. Type the name you want to use (I will suggest you use something like Shutdown or Shutdown Immediately).​
  4. Automatically shutdown your PC

  5. Click Finish.
  6. Now a shutdown shortcut have been created in your desktop and anytime you click on it, it will automatically shutdown your PC in the giving time.

    How Do I Add an Icon To The Shutdow Shortcut?

    • Go to your desktop and right-click on the shortcut you created and click Properties.​​​

    • Click Change Icon.​

    1. Select an icon that has the power sign on it or select any icon that reminds you that it’s a shutdown button.
    2. Click OK twice when you select the icon you want.​

      How Do I Schedule The Shutdown?

      To schedule the shutdown to anytime you want; follow the same procedure again and change the number 00 to the time you want in (write it in seconds). 

      For example, if you want to automatically shutdown your PC in 1 minute time, replace 00 with 60; if you want the system to shutdown in I hour time, replace 00 with 3600 and save it.​


      Anytime you click on it, it will automatically shutdown your PC in exact time you set.

      I suggest that you create shortcut for each schedule you want. For instance, if you want to automatically shutdown your PC in 1 hour, 2 hours or immediately, you can create shortcut for each of these

      How Do I Set It To Restart Instead of Shutting Down?

      To do that, you just need to change on letter:

      1. Right-Click on an empty space on your desktop and hover over New then click Shortcut
      2. Type the code below in the box:

        shutdown -r -t 00

        replace 00 with the time you want (in seconds)Automatically shutdown your PC
      3. Click Next
      4. Name it Restart Now or Anything you want​Automatically shutdown your PC
      5. Click Finish

      Anytime you click on the shortcut, your PC will restart.

      Use It To Prank Your Friend

      If you want to pull a prank on a friend, then just create this shortcut and rename it to something they will click then change the icon then save it. Now watch how they freak out when they click on the shortcut. Cheers!
